Orly – Space Cadet

24 Dec

Orly – Space Cadet

Sometimes purple… or green! or red! Depending on how the light hits the lacquer. :)

This is one of my favorites but the dry time takes a while. 3-4 coats, ~ 1 hour for my nails to fully dry.

Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color – Red-y Response

6 Sep

Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color – Red-y Response

I was lucky enough to get this for ~$3.00 after extra care bucks @ CVS + some other coupons a few weeks ago. :) Magnetic polish can get pretty expensive! I believe this bottle retails for ~$9-10 at CVS!

For those who are not familiar with magnetic polish, the polish basically has iron powder in the formula so when you hover a magnet over a wet coat on your nail it will form a fun design. :)

Nail Deco Of The Week #111 / Free $5 Sephora GC

28 Aug

Sorry I’ve been MIA again! But I’m back with good news!

If you download the app called “Wrapp” in the Andriod or iTunes market you can send send $5-10 giftcards for free!

If you want to send yourself a giftcard, you’ll need to tell your friend to send you one back. :)

You can also access your account @ https://www.wrapp.com

The free giftcards should say “FREE” next to them, so make sure you’re selecting the right one!

From my screen I could select from $5 Sephora, $5 Office Depot, $5 Gap, $5 Threadless, $10 Fab.com… those are just to name a few of the companies that I’m familiar with. There are a few more too. :)

You just show your smartphone to the cashier with the Wrapp app open and they will type in the #’s. You can also use the Sephora code online, but then you’d have to pay shipping for orders under $50.

I popped by my local Sephora @ Santa Monica this weekend and grabbed some Tokidoki stuff on sale!

My boyfriend offered to let me use his GC so I got to use two $5 GC’s that day! Lucky me. :)

Tokidoki nail stickers +$2.00
Tokidoki nail confetti +$4.00
$5 Wrapp giftcard: -$5.00
Total: $1.56 out of pocket!

Tokidoki eyeshadow in Carnivora: +$6.00
$5 Wrapp giftcard: -$5.00
Total: $1.56 out of pocket!

I believe Tokidoki is doing some kind of clearance on their line at Sephora? The entire section was marked down! I saw some cute brush sets for $14 and mini MU palettes for $4.00 that I kind of regret not buying!

Tokidoki nail confetti – Savana (pink + gold glitter)

Each bottle comes with a small sheet of nail stickers (plastic wrapped to the bottles)!

Tokidoki nail confetti – Savana
China glaze – For Audrey
(Do you like my Marc Jacobs Daisy mini in the background? I LOVE perfume minis! :))

Some closeups of the other items that I purchased:

I hope the Wrapp app deal works for you all too! :D

Nail Deco Of The Week #110 / Review

16 Jul

Jackie of http://www.jackie.jamberrynails.net kindly sent me these designs to try:

Andrea of http://www.LoveUrNails.JamberryNails.com has sent me blue & red fish to try.

For those who have not tried nail stickers before, they are very easy to use! These Jamberry ones require heat to adhere to the nail properly. The consultants explained that using a hair dryer is the quickest and easiest way to do it! So what you do is you blow dry the nail stickers for about 15 seconds and then you apply the stickers to your nail and file away the excess.

Unlike other nail stickers that I’ve tried, these ones do not require a top coat.

It is important to heat up the stickers before you apply them! I only put them under my hairdryer for around 5-7 seconds thinking that it’d be enough but the nail stickers fell off after 1 hour. I tried again for around 10 seconds (I know, I really need to be more patient!) and they started peeling off the very next day.

My most recent attempt followed the instructions correctly (15 seconds under the hairdryer) using these cute chevron stickers that Adriane of http://ajolly.jamberrynails.net sent me.

The application was smoother, but still some very tiny parts that I couldn’t even out. There was still tip wear after a day for me. Does this happen to anyone else? I don’t know if it’s due to the curvature of my nail or whatever? I should also mention that I hand wash dishes!

OVERALL:

Pros: Fun designs, quick, easy, does not harm the nails, easy removal (peels off)

Cons: Does not last that long, many size options but nothing fits my thumb perfectly (to be fair, nail stickers pretty much never fit my nails perfectly)

Summary: I did not like using these as stickers for my entire nail. I find that they start to wear off at the tips too quickly. I’d use them for half or part of my nails though! Maybe by cutting out a stripes or something. They stick on pretty well, just not at the tips. There are also a huge selection of designs to choose from. If you’re interested, contact the ladies listed above! :)

Nail Polish Haul

7 Mar

Nail polish haul from bloom.com and drugstore.com! :)

Essie – As gold as it gets (gold glitter topcoat)

Essie – Orange! It’s obvious. A bright red-orange cream. This is my first orange nail polish!

Zoya – Chloe (Fleck glitter!)

Zoya – Bevin => a dusty light jade cream. Also a close dupe for OPI – Thanks a windmillion!

OPI – Wooden shoe like to know (brown with copper glitter)

OPI – I have a herring problem => periwinkle blue with fine silver glitter

Revlon – Whimsical => a dupe for Deborah Lippmann – Glitter in the air! a pastel blue jelly with pink and blue glitters
I actually bought this one off of drugstore.com, not bloom. :D

Oh and if anyone wanted to see a China glaze – For audrey (my all time favorite color!) & Zoya – Bevin comparison (Bevin appears lighter in the bottle than when applied):

Now for swatches! Sorry I didn’t swatch all the colors,I’ll try to do that later when I can find the time! :)

Zoya – Bevin. Excellent dry time and smooth application! (2 coats)

Zoya – Bevin with Essie – As gold as it gets layered over

Zoya – Bevin with Revlon – Whimsical layered over! The glitter is rather hard to control. I had to keep moving the glitters around in order to achieve the look that I wanted. This also contributed to the streaks of baby blue. D: Whimsical’s not the best, but it’s still a nice cheap alternative if you want Glitter in the air!

Zoya – Bevin with Essie – A cut above and Revlon – Whimsical layered over it

Also wanted to show you guys my plant! We had a de-stress event on campus where they let us paint pots and plant flowers. :)

Can you tell that I have a strong color preference? :P

Surprise! Painted the inside too. Bright orange!

I have no idea what seeds they gave me… but they’re beginning to sprout already so I’ll find out soon! :)

This LA sunshine is pretty amazing tosomeone who grew up in a one-season-city (ahem, San Francisco). Everything that I tried to grow in San Francisco pretty much failed. Though I suppose it may have had a lot more to do with my incompetence than SF’s weather!

I feel like I’m turning into a plant hoarder. I’ll show you guys my other mini plants perhaps in my next post? :D

Magnetic Polishes + misc swatches

8 Jan

Wanted to post up some pictures of the magnetic polishes that I was playing with at Sephora :)

nails inc. Trafalgar Square (chrome) — middle finger

nails inc. Special Effects Electric Lane Holographic Glitter Top Coat — index finger

nails inc.  Houses Of Parliament (purple) — thumb

Aren’t they cool? :) For the magnetic polishes, you swipe a thick coat of iron-powder infused polish and quickly put the magnetic cap on top of the wet polish. I found it a little tricky not to let the cap touch my nail (and apparently others have this problem too since the tester cap had quite a bit of residue!) but after about 5-10 seconds, the polish will dry to a cool pattern! If you’ve ever seen cat-eye beads, the finish is kind of like that. They cost $16.00 a bottle at Sephora and come in 3 colors (chrome, purple, teal). I couldn’t bring myself to buy a bottle, hopefully there are dupes to be found!

Two more swatches:

Zoya – Neeka (not quite as glitter as it looks in the bottle, but still very pretty! this color is also darker than it appears in the bottle)

Essie – School of Hard Rocks

Julep Maven It Girl Post

8 Jan

I posted the Julep $0.01 deal a few days ago and just wanted to let everyone know that I got my box!

I know you’re curious. :)

The box came with…

3 nail colors ( L-R: Diane (vampy jelly forest green), Trina (vampy aubergine shimmer), Helena (creme fuschia)

1 nail top coat

1 sample of Julep’s hand scrub

1 sample of Julep’s hand lotion

1 mini container of nail glitter

all wrapped nicely in a black paper bag with a red ribbon for a penny. :)

Trina is my favorite! The polishes were all very pigmented, Diane was a bit sheer though so that took around 3 coats. I was very pleased with how all of colors dried with an ultra glossy finish! The only thing I dislike about Julep polishes is that they are quite expensive… each polish costs about $14.00 on their website– but their polishes are not the standard .5 oz! They are .27 oz. I have yet to see a Julep nail color that is special enough to purchase for that price.

Sorry for the messy application! I was in a rush.
