Nail Deco Of The Week #114 + DIY Flats + Custom Minion

6 Aug

Frankened hot coral pink

Tokidoki Nail Polish SANDY (glitter)

Bindi inspired nail art 🙂

Also! My local H&M in west LA had a sale on accessories this weekend (extra 50% off all accessories!)

I grabbed 3 pairs of flats for $2.00 each. 🙂 They’re pretty comfortable and great for some DIY projects!

I painted clouds on one pair last night with white acrylic paint. The bows were removed and replaced with gold paper fasteners. 🙂

I also have one pair of hot pink patent flats! I’m not sure how I want to customize these. Any ideas?

Oh, and here’s my other project! Customizing the McDonald Despicable Me 2 toys!

The fire alarm minion that yells “Bee-do Bee-do!”

DIY Projects Pt 2

16 Sep

I’ve been finding these great vintage hardcovers at estate sales + Goodwill for around $3.00 each!

Hollowed out with an X-acto blade and….

Ta-da! Book boxes for small treasures. 🙂

And my most recent project….

Glued on some findings…

Ripped out all the pages and glued in….

Fabric lining! Added some velcro so that it would shut. In retrospect, I probably should have sewed a flap so things don’t fall out… It took forever to finish sewing the inside! @.@ I really need to invest in a sewing machine…

Lastly, here’s my mini garden:

Basil, Marjaram, Dill, Green Onion and Cilantro! 🙂 We’re currently experiencing a heat wave here in Los Angeles… I hope my basil enjoy the sunshine! I didn’t photograph all of my basil pots but I accidentally grew too many (count: 20)! Those seeds are just so small. 😦 Oh well. More pesto for me!

Tiny cilantro

Dill, Marjaram, Basil (to be transported soon!)

Green onion

More basil. I need more containers!

DIY Projects Pt 1

16 Sep

Hello everyone! I’ve been DIY-ing quite a bit lately (which explains why I have not been updating with nail deco very much!). Pinterest is so addicting! Anyway, I wanted to show you all what I’ve been making. 🙂

Pearl Spider pendent (tutorial by Shawkl)

Made with gold filled wire, Swarovski pearls, Duochrome Czech fire polished beads, seed beads and some other little beads that I bought in a grab-bag a longgg time ago.

The spider really creeped my housemates and boyfriend out. I don’t know… I think it’s pretty!

Up-cycled old earrings / necklaces to bracelets!

When stacked together. 🙂

Pouches with leather flaps

To be continued! 🙂

Off Topic DIY Swanson Pyramid of Greatness

16 Jul

Does anyone else watch Parks and Rec? 🙂 My apartment-mates and I made a replication of the Swanson Pyramid of Greatness out of paint chips, cardboard, paint, some glue, printed pictures of Ron’s beautiful face and sharpie writing!

^ Alright, that picture is a little scary since it was taken at night…

^ LIGHT! 🙂

I honestly believe every household should have this on their wall(s). I hope you make one too!

For high res references, use google images!

To watch the clip of Ron introducing his pyramid, use youtube!

New polishes + OFFTOPIC DIY TORN TIGHTS FOR BOW FLATS TUTORIAL

22 Dec

I ordered some polishes from Bloom.com 🙂

Essie – School of Hard Rocks

Zoya – Neeka

OPI – Suzi Loves Cowboys

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri – Lickety-Split Lime

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri – Mint Sprint

Lickety-Split Lime, Mint Sprint, School of  Hard Rocks, Neeka, Suzi Loves Cowboys

I am sooo happy with the Insta-Dri’s! The formula is great, you’ll only need 1-2 coats for an opaque finish. I can’t believe I haven’t tried this line earlier since it’s been around for so long! I will def be buying more. Neeka is a 1-2 coater as well. Suzi loves cowboys is a bit sheer, but the dry time is satisfactory.

Now onto the tutorial!

I like to wear sheer tights, but somehow I always seem to ruin them after 1 or 2 wears. I usually just toss them, but I’ve recently thought up of a fun way to recycle! What can you do with torn tights you ask?

Now I suppose to I could have just worn my torn tights like Miley…

But that’s never really been my style. Here’s what I did instead!

1. Grab your torn tights…

2. Snip off the legs and feet

3. Turn them into bows! I’ve noticed that sheer tights are very good for making fluffy bows. You won’t have to worry about the ends fraying because if you stretch them they’ll just fold over by themselves. the torn part won’t really show because your tights will scrunch up and it will be hard to tell.

Now you can turn your bows into pins… or  jewelry… whatever! The possibilities are endless. 🙂 I decided to spruce up a pair of flats by super gluing them on.

Easy, right?
